WCS sponsors the MSBA YLS Annual Charity Event
WCS sponsors the MSBA Young Lawyers Section’s Twenty-Third Annual Charity Event, benefiting Melody’s Fund
The Young Lawyers Section of the Maryland State Bar Association will host its 23rd Annual Charity event on March 14th at the Admiral Fell Inn in Baltimore. WCS attorney Meighan Burton is the co-chairperson for this event. Lisa D. Sparks, Robert Hesselbacher, and Michael Stanley will be attending.
All proceeds will benefit Melody’s Fund at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of Melody Tagliaferri Cronin, who lost her battle with leukemia last year.
Melody Tagliaferri Cronin was a local attorney, young mother and active member of the YLS, who suffered from a rare form of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) characterized by a mutation of the FLT3-ITD (FLT3) gene. Unfortunately, the prognosis for this type of AML is among the worst for all types of Leukemia, and specific therapies are only recently being investigated. Melody’s family has established the Melody Fund through The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to support research surrounding AML and the FLT3 mutation, with the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
Since 1949, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has invested more than $850 million in blood cancer research. The Melody Fund supports the society’s AML Research Portfolio. This work includes the project that was very close to Melody, studying the FLT3-ITD mutation. Additional current research areas of study that hold promise for patients include: novel stem cell transplantation procedures, immunotherapies, radioimmunotherapies and survivorship research. In addition to research, LLS provides numerous programs and services that assist patients, their families and loved ones throughout their entire cancer journey.
