2024 35th Annual Northeast Surety & Fidelity Claims Conference
July 30, 2024
In this Surety Today: The Blog post I am taking the opportunity to shamelessly plug the upcoming 35th Annual Northeast Surety & Fidelity Claims Conference, of which my firm is a co-sponsor and at which I will be speaking, along with my partner Cindy Rodgers-Waire. (Unfortunately, because this is a sponsored event, the plug is only directed to members of surety companies.) The Conference will be held from September 18 – 20, 2024 at the Ocean Casino Resort on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In my humble opinion this is one of the best conferences in the industry. The sponsors of the conference include a who’s who of surety industry titans (in addition to my firm of course) – Chiesa, Shahinian & Giantomasi; Forcon International Corp.; Krebs Farley, PLLC; Lipson Neilson, P.C.; Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C.; Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP; and Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald, LLP.
The location of the conference at the Ocean Casino Resort is terrific because Atlantic City is easily accessible, and the Ocean Casino is one of the newest and nicest venues in Atlantic City. There is shopping, restaurants, pools and spas – all right on the property. It is located on the ocean front and the boardwalk. As always, the conference offers a plethora of CE and CLE credits from states such as Florida, Texas, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland and Virginia.
At the conference, this year’s topics include:
- Is There a Continuing Duty to Investigate a Payment Bond Claim After Either the Claim is Denied by the Surety or After Litigation is filed by the Claimant
- Discussion of Surety Related Ethics Issues
- Defalcation: The Surety’s Pursuit of the Bankrupt Indemnitor for Non-Dischargeable Debt
- Mastering Risk Factors for Renewable Energy Projects so you’re not Just Tilting at Windmills
- The Davis Bacon Act and Recent Changes
- Update on the Law of Probate Bonds
- Financing a Principal
- Known Underbids – Is There a Surety Defense When Things Go Wrong?
- Claims Tips from the Battle-Scarred Veterans
- Case Study
There will be golf outings before, during and after the conference. There will also be non-golf outings including (I believe) a cooking class and a winery tour. Oh, and there is lots and lots of gambling and sports betting available as well. You will be wined, you will be dined, you will be educated and you can hob-nob with all of your industry friends and colleagues. The cost to attend the conference for company folks is zero. The room rate is $124 per night. A copy of the Invitation to the conference is linked here. On the invitation you will find links to register for the conference and to register with the hotel. We all hope to see you there.
If you have questions regarding the conference please do not hesitate to contact Michael A. Stover, Esq. (410-659-1321/mstover@wcslaw.com) or any member of the Surety and Fidelity Practice Group or Danielle Peynado with Forcon International at dpeynado@forcon.com.
