WCS lawyers Steve White and Meighan Burton from the Maritime & Transportation group of the firm will be featured speakers at the Watermen’s Business Program sponsored by the Maryland Sea Grant Program of the University of Maryland.  

The main focus of the workshop is to help watermen become better business managers.  The workshop offers a variety of presentations on the topics considered most important to commercial watermen, including legal issues for boats, insurance needs, accounting practices for fishing businesses, new U.S. Coast Guard safety regulations, and on-going marketing initiatives by Maryland Seafood Marketing.

Mr. White and Ms. Burton will be covering the topic of “Legal Considerations for Commercial Operators.” Their presentation will address issues such as choice of business entity; remedies for personal injuries incurred by seamen, passengers, and others; marine insurance considerations; salvage; marine casualty reporting; and OSHA inspections.
