WC&S’ construction law practice group represents a wide range of clients in the construction industry. Our attorneys regularly represent owners (both private and governmental), contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and design professionals providing legal advice and helping to resolve project issues as they arise.
Our construction lawyers’ primary concern is building the project, not litigation. The firm’s attorneys regularly draft and review contracts, work with clients on estimating and bidding issues, through contract negotiation. We routinely advise clients on the American Institute of Architects (AIA) documents as well as the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Consensus DOCS. The firm’s construction law attorneys are thoroughly experienced with the design, development, and construction process and they understand the technical issues which often arise during the process. Our attorneys actively work with our clients on loss prevention activities -- basically preventive lawyering.
Unfortunately, not all litigation can be avoided. In those instances, WC&S lawyers represent clients in federal and state courts, as well as before administrative boards, throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. With an eye always on the client’s bottom-line, alternative dispute resolution methods (such as mediation and/or arbitration) may be recommended to our clients when it makes economic sense to do so.
As the construction industry is constantly changing in response to market and technological forces, construction law encompasses an ever-broadening range of subject areas. When the need arises, our construction lawyers interact seamlessly with other practice areas in the firm, such as labor and employment law, corporate and business, and creditor and debtor (bankruptcy), so that our clients may achieve their goals with as little effort as is possible.
